comcast cable internet very slow
Ubuntu network problem?
I'm not sure what is wrong, but I just moved into a new apartment and ATT DSL. I'm using the same router that was using my parents house with Comcast Cable, but wireless Internet is extremely slow. I realize DSL is slower in general, but this is not the problem. my girlfriend's computer running at a very fast rate, only my computer has problems. You are running Windows and I was wondering if it might be an OS problem. When I do a speed test on both computers 4MBS me (I'm paying for 6 MB, but that's another matter. And YES I have done while connected directly to the modem). All However, DHCP is configured to automatically obtain, etc, etc (I worked Comcast tech support so I know the basics). I have never encountered a problem that this team is much slower than the other. He seems to have much of a problem when I connect to the router. Any help is appreciated, this has been very frustrating. Thanks in advance!
Because say you do not have this problem when connected to the router, I guess the problem is with wireless. Note that ubuntu and many other versions of Linux, has problems with some of the wireless chip or card that slows down or make impossible to use wireless. This is especially true in computers laptops that use proprietary chips and / or programming of wireless communications that are NOT specific Linux drivers. The Linux operating system to avoid this by using a "wrapper" around the Windows driver. The difference is not very noticeable in high-speed systems, but can be quite noticeable in systems such as slower dial-up or DSL.
