Direct TV installation?

I'm seriously considering Direct TV over my cable provider now. A friend told me that they will pass the cables through my home televisions. I was wondering if you can use the external cable box is already connected to my coax into the house instead of running the wires along the sockets. any links with pictures or diagrams to help. thanks
