dish dvr disk format

Disk Network DVR Transfer Videos?
i was wondering if i were to connect an external hard drive to my dish network dvr using one of the usb ports on it, if i could then transfer videos on to it and then hook it up to my computer so I can edit the video(s) and then burn them onto a DVD to watch anywhere i want?? …or does the dvr record in a format that my computer wont recognize??
once recorded, they become proprietary file types that your computer wont recoqnize…as you stated but if you have a TV card on your PC, you can use the RF output of the receiver and split it to your PC. Then ask your DVR to replay your show, then using windows media center to save it to your computer after wards you can even use the media center to burn it to a disk. Just remember not to disturb the replay ( pause, info, etc ) because this is how it will be saved to your computer. If your planing to burn to disk, start the PC recording at the end of the opening title shot and end it right before the credits role. Ive saved several PPVs to disk and barely fit them on the largest disks I could find. Also keep in mind that since the source cable is only coax ( the only option on my TV card anyways ) the picture quality on the burned disk is of slightly less quality of a new DVD, to me anyways. Only HD recievers can utilize an external hard drive and Dish gets about $20-$30 bucks to authorize that feature, one time fee only.
