A/V experts – computer on my TV – VGA or DVI to HDMI?
I have a 46″ LCD TV. I have a small (old) Windows 2000 computer hooked up to it via the TV’s VGA input. It works fairly well, but text is very difficult to read. Is there anything to be gained by using a computer with a DVI output? I have a newer computer running XP that has a DVI output, and I saw you can get a DVI->HDMI converter – so while my TV doesn’t have a DVI input, it does have an extra HDMI.
1. I know XP works better with LCD displays as far as smooth fonts. Will this be a factor over Windows 2000, or is it all just a matter of the TV resolution? (The TV is a Sharp 720 dpi)
2. The XP PC has VGA on board, but I purchased a PCI express video card for it that has DVI, so I can use either, but the TV has VGA input and HDMI – not DVI. To use the DVI output of the PC I would need a DVI to HDMI converter – with all that conversion, is it any better than VGA?

I have hooked up a PC to many flat panels TVs using all three of your connections. The best in my opinion is the VGA connection. If your having trouble seeing text change the resolution on your PC. Also if text is just your problem change the text size on your browser. Do not buy a DVI to HDMI converter they are expensive and end up making the picture look even worse.
Did you know HDMI cables are rated for different speeds?
