satellite tv line of sight

DirecTv not receiving satellite signal?
I just upgraded to an HD receiver in my bedroom and ever since it’s been activated, I’ve only been able to receive a picture twice in the last 4 days. All the other times when I turn on the TV, it keeps ’searching for satellite’ and will do so for hours on end. My other 2 televisions work just fine.
I’ve done everything they’ve suggested, restarting, unplugging, checking cables, etc. (And yes, I have a b-band filter box installed) My satellite has a direct line of sight and the weather has been crystal clear. The only thing I can’t do is check the cables connected to the satellite b/c it’s on my roof. The tech is coming out in a couple of days, but I was hoping to resolve the problem without having to pay the fee. Suggestions?
The first thing that caught my eye in this explanation is that you stress that you DO have a b-band converter connected.
Is the HD receiver also a DVR? If so, do you have TWO cables going to the receiver or just one?
If there’s just one line or it’s just regular HD receiver you should try connecting the cables without the BBC. The reason I say this is because you might live in an area where the installation of HD includes a special installation that can screw with your signal. If you remove the BBC and that clears your signal issue then you’re good to go.
If that doesn’t work, it’s best to have the tech come out to check it out. If you had DirecTV install the receiver and it’s been only 4 days then you should be covered under warranty and not pay the fee. The technician will check your cabling, make sure your dish is pointed properly, check to make sure your BBC is functional (sometimes, like all electronics, they are bad), check to make sure the receiver is working properly, and many other things.
